Festival InScience à l'INEM
The Inserm Festival makes its debut at INEM: Inscience!
For the first time, INEM is hosting the Inscience festival on its premises this Friday 29 May in the afternoon.
The programme features four science outreach workshops for a Year 8 class from Madame de Staël secondary school in the 15th arrondissement.
The Terzi, Pontoglio, Asnafi-Macintyre and Venteclef teams will each present a workshop based on their research topics.
PROGRAMME
Researchers & doctors: a team fighting childhood leukaemia
In this workshop, pupils will meet researchers, biologists and doctors from Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital, the Necker-Enfants Malades Institute and the APHP who are working together to better understand and treat childhood leukaemia. They will discover how scientific research and medical practice complement each other on a daily basis: from laboratory experiments to hospital care. Through practical and interactive discussions, pupils will understand how science helps improve patient care and why teamwork is essential for advancing medicine.
Organisers: Vahid Asnafi – Guillaume Andrieu – Elizabeth Macintyre
Superhero or saboteur? Immune cells and diabetes
The immune system is known for its role in maintaining the body’s internal balance. However, it can sometimes spiral out of control and become dangerous to us, as in the case of diseases such as diabetes.
Organisers: Bastien Aznar – Chloé Delepine – Amine Toubal
Mission Rein Possible: the investigation that filters out the truth
Welcome to our medical investigation workshop!
Today, we’re going to try to unravel the case of Mr Reinold Pasfuté, a fictional patient suffering from lower back pain, recurrent fever and chronic fatigue, with a family history of polycystic kidney disease.
Your mission: to determine whether his kidneys are still functioning properly… Or whether something has disrupted their role as natural filters. To do this, you will carry out several simple but revealing tests.
Ready? Then put on your lab coat: the investigation begins now!
Organisers: Caterina Gargano – Anaïs Raton – Kanokporn Nuantang – Maho Kanai
DNA, kidneys and disease: when genetics takes the lead
Dive into the world of genetics! Come and extract DNA (from strawberries!) with researchers specialising in chronic kidney disease. A fun activity to discover this molecule found in all living things, and to understand how it helps us to better study, diagnose and treat kidney diseases.
Organisers: Sonja Rehrl – Corentin Ramaugé Parra – Emilie Pacreau
