Demystifying cell biology and lab life on Instagram? 

 👩‍🔬📲 That's the challenge that Carla Alemany, PhD student in Etienne Morel's MEMBRAMICS team, set herself in in September 2024! 

"Let me take you into the microscopic world of our cells. 👩‍🔬🔬 "

From the composition of a cell to the schedule of a conference day, not to mention the correct procedure for disposing of a broken mercury thermometer, Carla communicates, explains, and presents laboratory research—always with great humor and insight. 
 

In addition to science outreach, Carla also offers a longer format on YouTube, “Les femmes en doctorat” (Women in Doctoral Programs), which interviews female doctoral students, retracing their profiles and projects:

"Highlighting female doctoral students reminds us that science advances thanks to a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives. This project is close to my heart because it helps make research more representative, more accessible, and more human. On my Instagram account, I also share resources, explanations, and feedback to pass on knowledge, make research more visible to the general public, and show the reality of everyday life for a young researcher. "

In the lab, Carla is continuing her thesis on Rab11, membrane trafficking, and stress response(s). She was interviewed for the #5_^th edition of the Scientific Highlights magazine from the BioSPC doctoral school. Read her interview here.
