Pamela Schnupf receives a 2019 ERC Consolidator Grant

The European Research Council (ERC) awarded a total of eight Consolidator Grants (CoGs) in the Life Sciences section on Infection and Immunity (LS6) to European researchers in 2019. We are pleased to announce that our recently recruited group leader Pamela Schnupf is a recipient of this competitive grant.

Dr. Schnupf’s ERC CoG will support her research program entitled “NicheAdapt: Deciphering the niche adaptations of a gut commensal involved in educating the host immune system”. The Schnupf Lab of Host-Microbiota Interaction at our Institut Necker Enfants Malades (INEM) is interested in deciphering the life-style of the unusual commensal bacterium called Segmented Filamentous Bacteria (SFB). This bacterium has been shown in a number of animal models to potently stimulate the host immune system and to protect the host from pathogens. The NicheAdapt research program will lead to a better understanding on how this bacterium interacts with the host and has adapted to its particular niche at the ileal surface. It will thereby contribute in the potential development of a SFB-based vaccine delivery platform against gastrointestinal infections for young children and livestock.

We congratulate Dr. Schnupf on this prestigious research award and wish her and her team success in their future work!
