Biosketch
Mario Pende earned a Master's degree in Pharmacology from the University of Genova, Italy, in 1993. Subsequently, he pursued a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Basel, Switzerland, where he graduated with the highest honors, Summa cum laude, in 2000.
His professional journey encompassed roles across diverse regions. He served as a Visiting Scientist at NICHD, NIH, Bethesda, Maryland, in the United States from 1993 to 1996. He completed his PhD nnder the guidance of Pr George Thomas, at the Friedrich Miescher Institute in Basel, Switzerland, from 1996 to 2000. Post-graduation, he continued his research as a Post-doctoral Scientist at the Friedrich Miescher Institute from 2000 to 2001.
In 2002, Mario Pende embraced the position of a Principal Investigator, participating in the Avenir Program at INSERM, Necker Institute, Paris, France. His dedication and contributions led to achieving tenure at INSERM in 2007.
Recognition for his contributions in the field of science includes the Morgagni Prize for Studies on Metabolism in 2006 and the Schlumberger Foundation Award in the same year. He has also been honored with the prestigious European Research Council Awards, receiving both Starting and Consolidator grants in 2008 and 2013, respectively. In 2014, the Académie des Sciences awarded him the Prix de l’Académie des Sciences-Biologie Integrative in recognition of his contributions.
