Weiping Han obtained his PhD in Physiology from Cornell University in 1996. He did his postdoctoral work at the University of Pittsburgh and HHMI/UT Southwestern Medical Center. In 2003, he was promoted to Research Assistant Professor in the Center for Basic Neuroscience at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he studied molecular mechanisms of hormone secretion and signaling. In 2005, he moved to Singapore to set up a research program in the Laboratory of Metabolic Medicine (LMM) at Singapore Bioimaging Consortium (SBIC), and was promoted to Research Director / Professor in 2013.

Currently, Weiping Han is Distinguished Principal Scientist at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (A*STAR), Professor at National University of Singapore and Duke-NUS Medical School, and a Member of the Neurobiology Program at Life Sciences Institute of the National University of Singapore School of Medicine. He is also Program Director for the Brain-Body Initiative, an A*STAR Strategic Research Program. His research interest centers around metabolic homeostasis in health and disease.
