PRESTIGE LECTURES AT INEM : HANS CLEVERS
Hans Clevers is a Dutch molecular geneticist, cell biologist and stem cell researcher. Hans is currently the Head of pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), and a member of the Corporate Executive Committee of F. Hoffmann-La Roche based in Basel, Switzerland. Previously, Hans headed a research group at the Hubrecht Institute for Developmental Biology and Stem Cell Research and at the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology and Oncode where he has remained as an advisor and guest scientist or visiting researcher. Han’s research group has spun out a non-profit clinical research organization (CRO), HUB Organoids.

First Lecture on Wednesday 3 May at noon : From stem cells to organoids
Second Lecture on Friday 5 May at noon : Organoids to model human diseases

Amphitheater 2, Institut Necker Enfants Malades-INEM, -1 level, 160 rue de Vaugirard, 75015 Paris

Just published in Immunity: SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection drives late remodeling of the memory B cell repertoire in vaccinated individuals

The team of Matthieu Mahévas and Pascal Chappert have been following up on their recent work on B cell responses in the context of SARS-CoV-2 infection and mRNA vaccination. Studying memory B cells and plasma cells post SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection in individuals previously vaccinated with three doses of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine, they show clear signs of antigen imprinting from the Hu-1 Spike encoded in the vaccine. However, the diversity of the [...]

Group leader positions at Institut Necker Enfants Malades, Université Paris Cité, Paris-France
The Institut Necker Enfants Malades (INEM, https://www.institut-necker-enfants-malades.fr/) invites applications for two group leader positions. Excellent future prospects and an upwards-scientific track record will be the principal selection criteria. We promote equal opportunities, strongly encouraging applications from female candidates and welcome applications from early career scientists as well as established PIs who wish to join INEM.
Candidates should have an innovative research [...]

Just published in Cell Reports: Lipocalin-2 induces mitochondrial dysfunction in renal tubular cells via mTOR pathway activation
Mitochondrial dysfunction is a critical process involved in plethora of pathologies. Morgan Gallazzini’s group in the team of Fabiola Terzi identified Lipocalin-2 as an inducer of mitochondrial dysfunction. By combining in cells and in vivo renal disease models the team demonstrated that Lipocalin-2 regulates mTOR activity and thus induces mitochondrial fragmentation and loss of function.
This work has been published in Cell Reports and is available to [...]

Just published in NCB: the team of Ganna Panasyuk made a surprising discovery that Class 3 phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K), the best known for its role as a lipid kinase in vesicular trafficking and lysosomal degradation by autophagy, has a function in nuclear transcription. By combining the analyses in cells and in vivo in liver the team demonstrated that class 3 PI3K acts as a coactivator of the circadian clock Bmal1–Clock transcription factor complex for rhythmic purine nucleotides [...]

Identification of AKT-FoxO1 as an on/off gate for marginal zone B cell development
The team of Simon Fillatreau identified in a collaborative work with the team of Dr. Nadine Hövelmeyer (Mainz University, Germany) the chief role of the AKT-FoxO1 signaling axis in the formation of mouse and human marginal zone B cells, which are involved in host defense against encapsulated bacteria (Cell Reports, doi: 10.1016/j.celrep.2023.112378

Just published in JCI Insight
Just published in JCI Insight: the team of Marco Pontoglio and the team of Fabiola Terzi, in collaboration with the pathology department of Necker hospital, have elucidated two key events in the pathophysiology of kidney damage in patients with COVID-19: (1) they demonstrated that SARS-CoV-2 infects living renal cells and that the infection is associated with increased death; (2) they showed that SARS-CoV-2 activates specific genetic networks and identified X-linked [...]
